When Doing Financial Statements, What Is The “current Year?”?

I am doing a project for school, and need to make statements using quickbooks for 10/01/20xx
it says use the current year, either 2007 or 2008…so would the current year for me be 2007 because October hasn’t come yet for 2008? thanks
